When Multi-Grammy® award nominee Keyshia ColeKeyshia Cole stepped onto the red carpet for the Lifetime Movie Network premiere of her biopic “Keyshia Cole: This Is My Story” Film Premiere she was raw, real, and ready to share her heart with the world. The film follows Cole from her earlier days of overcoming a difficult childhood to her rise to stardom while reuniting a broken, divided family.

For her acting debut, the Grammy-nominated singer released new music, an original score titled ‘Forever Is A Thing’ produced by Warren Campbell. Released last Friday, the song already has over 31K views on YouTube. Fans took to social media to comment about the personal impact that the song had on them. “Beautiful song, I keep repeating to hear the song over and over! You can definitely feel her pain in this song,” one fan wrote. Another fan penned, “It’s a peacefully healing yet misty-eyed ballad that showcases Keyshia’s luxurious acclaimed tone and despairing vocals that compliments the enchanting instruments.”

Most recently, the film received a 73% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.1 out of 10 stars on IMDb. It’s a film that she describes as traumatic, emotional, and at its core, love. When asked about the film, Cole spoke to its first audience and said, “It’s a reflection of my life and my love that I have for my mom, I hate that it ended the way that it did but the truth is you know, this is just my life.”

As the nation celebrated Black Music Month and 50 years of Hip Hip, there was a deep appreciation for Cole’s resilience and determination to succeed. For Cole, failure was not an option. “It wasn’t no other choice. We were like if it doesn’t work, we were like “It Gotta Work Out.” I don’t have nothing else, there’s nowhere else for me to go. That was my mind frame,” Cole told the audience at The Clive Davis Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.

Highlighting her complicated yet warm-hearted relationship with her mother Frankie Lons, Cole says that for the film “I wanted to dedicate it more so to my mom, in remembrance of her. I felt like it was her story as well and I felt like it was a good opportunity to have that live for the rest of my life and my children’s lives.”

Butterfly in the sky/ Flies so high/ Reflection in my eyes/ Shines so bright/ Shoulda known the day would come/ When you would go away/ But I was too wrapped up in your love/ To ever know, how would I know,” she sings in the first verse of her new ballad Forever Is A Thing

Cole continues to touch lives with her personal story and musical compositions.
