The game between Chelsea and Liverpool was more than just a football match because of the recent transfer saga of Moises Caicedo.
Liverpool haven’t lost an opening game in the last 10 seasons. However, they haven’t won against Chelsea in their last seven meetings. The last four meetings between both clubs have ended in goalless draws.
Despite the names being on the lips of everyone, neither Roméo Lavia nor Moises Caicedo from Southampton and Brighton respectively was attached to either team as at when the game was played on Sunday, August 13, 2023.
Liverpool started the game on the front foot with Mohamed Salah leading the line for the Reds, his first real chance hit the top right bar. Luiz Diaz sent the away fans kn their feet when he scored the opening goal of the game. Salah had a goal ruled out for offside by the VAR.
Chelsea found their feet back into the game and that pressure paid off when Axel Disasi scored the equaliser in the 35th minute. Ben Chilwell thought he bought the Blues ahead two minutes later but his goal was also ruled out by VAR.
The second half started with Chelsea dominating Liverpool in every area of the pitch but failed to take advantage of their possession. The game ended with both teams sharing the spoils.
