R&B, Hip Hop, and Pop girl group Blaque will give a behind-the-scenes of their career on the seven-time NAACP Image Award-winning series “UNSUNG.”

“UNSUNG,” airs on TV One and spotlights entertainment’s most talented, versatile, and influential music artists. Blaque’s episode will air on Sunday, April, 7 at 9 p.m. EST.

Formed in Atlanta, Blaque was made up of Brandi Williams, Shamari DeVoe, and Natina Reed. They were discovered and mentored by the late Lisa “Left Eye Lopes of the legendary group, TLC. The trio greatly influenced the landscape of feminism and girl power within popular music and girl groups in 1999–2000 with their lyrics, sexy demeanor, and unique fashion style. Their music was a blend of Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop, Soul, and Funk. The singers of the group were DeVoe and Williams, while Williams would grace the track with her rap lyrics and unique style.

 Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes’ Mentorship

With the help of Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes from TLC, Blaque became an unstoppable force! The girl group brought a refreshing sound to the music industry in the late 1990s.

Viewers will get an in-depth look at how the group started, struggles and drama, and also the triumphs along the way. The show will also give viewers a look into the personal lives of the group. There are special appearances by Gabrielle Union, Ronald Lopes, Left Eye’s brother, and Dr. Tamara Goodridge, Reed’s mother, among others. Reed was killed in a car accident in 2012 at the age of 31.

The group’s debut, self-titled album “Blaque.” sold more than 3 million copies and was certified Platinum by the RIAA. The group’s debut included the Gold-selling single “808”, the international hit “Bring It All to Me”, and a third single, “I Do”. “Bring It All to Me” also served as a lead track for the film “Bring It On”, in which they co-starred alongside Gabrielle Union and Kirsten Dunst.

After the success of “Bring It On,” the group went on to sign with Elektra Records which led to the release of the international hit single “I’m Good”. The single was also featured in the film, “Honey.”

In 1999, Billboard named Blaque the 4th Best New Artist of the Year, with “Bring It All to Me” landing at number 30 on the 2000 Year End Chart. At the Billboard Video Awards, Blaque snagged the award for “Best New Artist” for the video “Bring It All To Me”.

Blaque is currently moving forward as a duo, working on new music and other individual endeavors. To commemorate the group’s 20th Anniversary in 2019, the group released a previously unreleased album, “Torch”. The rest of the group’s discography and the album garnered over 5 million streams in 2019 alone. The album also served as a thank-you to the fans for still supporting them despite a lengthy hiatus from new music and the evolution of their group going from a trio to a duo. Both Williams and DeVoe keep their bandmate, Natina Reed’s memory alive with an annual celebration called “Remembering Natina,” in which they celebrate the life and legacy of their bandmate with close family, friends, and fans.

Natina Reed’s Last Performance

In 2012, Blaque reconnected and performed for the last time together in a heartfelt tribute to Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes. Shortly after, the group suffered a tragic loss.

In April of 2023, Blaque was featured on the cover of Grind Pretty Magazine’s April Edition, showcasing their timeless appeal and continued relevance in the music scene. In 2022, Williams released her vegan nail polish line, Bei Polished.

DeVoe and her husband, Ronnie, are returning to Season Two of VH1’s “Couples Retreat.” Both ladies began working with new management and started recording new music in March of 2023.
